High-Quality Pen-Type 10mW Visual Fault Locator (VFL)
This premium pen-style 10mW red Visual Fault Locator (VFL) is engineered for field technicians requiring a reliable and cost-effective solution for fiber tracing, routing, and continuity verification in optical networks. It effectively identifies faults such as breakpoints, poor connections, bends, or cracks in fiber optic cables.
The VFL is especially useful for locating issues within the OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) dead zone and supports end-to-end visual fiber identification. Users can select either continuous or flashing light modes to visually pinpoint faults. The device features a built-in universal 2.5 mm adapter, ensuring easy compatibility with SC, ST, and FC connectors. LC and MU connectors can be supported with a 2.5 mm to 1.25 mm adapter.
Visual Fault Locators are available in various formats, including pen-style tools, OTDR-integrated models, and handheld box-type units. They are typically classified into contact and non-contact types.
A VFL works by injecting visible red laser light into the fiber core. Light leakage at points of discontinuity—such as breaks or macro bends—illuminates the fault location, often visible through the fiber buffer. While some macro bends may not be seen through the cladding, they are usually detectable through the buffer. Cracks may also be visible through the cable jacket depending on material, thickness, fiber count, and internal reinforcements.
